Information For WPI Open Day
I am interested in becoming a Psychotherapist – what do I need to do?
You can book a conversation with a WPI trainer. In addition, WPI holds Open Days each year where attendance allows you find out more about the Psychotherapy training at the Welsh Psychotherapy Institute. This is the next step, so do come to our forthcoming Open Day.
Why Attend a WPI Open Day?
If you have an interest in training, an Open Day gives you an opportunity to explore your motivations for wanting to train as a psychotherapist, meet members of our staff and trainees. It also allows you to gain a sense of whether WPI trainings are right for you. We encourage you to look at the material, engage with the exercises and ask questions. The Open Day also gives you the opportunity to meet other potential trainees. We hope at the end of the day you will have a good idea of whether our courses will be a good fit for you, practically, academically and emotionally.
In addition, the field of psychotherapy is complex. The Open Day provides an introduction to the UKCP model of psychotherapy training.
What are the Practical Details?
* Date: Saturday 25th April 2026
* Time 10 am – 3pm (arrive 9.55 zoom and technology check)
* Venue: Zoom
* Cost £25
* 5 Continuing Professional Development hours and a Certificate of Attendance. (If you proceed to our training, these hours count towards your PG Diploma).
What Happens at an Open Day?
The day is hosted by WPI members, including tutors, Board members, graduates and trainee member representatives. We encourage you to ask lots of questions.
The morning concentrates on the nature and the content of the courses. At lunch time, the tutors will withdraw to hold interviews, and you can then ask questions of the trainees and graduates that you may not wish to ask with tutors present. This is a confidential space and is not fed back to the tutors. To allow for interviews, there is a long lunch break. You will be offered a choice about how the afternoon session is spent. If the group has lots of questions, then the conversation can continue from the morning or there will be a prepared group exercise to give a small ‘taste’ of the training. Before the day ends, we will reconvene as a group and say our goodbyes.
